Task Coach is a flexible program, there are many ways to work. There’s still some float at highway speeds but the hatch is now a far more comfortable place to spend time in over longer journeys. You can select a bunch of efforts at once and edit them in one chunk, and you can change them to go to a different task you use to hold historical efforts, and you could add a description note to the efforts about moving them or whatever. There are also various workarounds to keep the history in some form. After 15 minutes of inactivity, the system stops counting time on task.

I have several ideas about how I'd like things to be. So one answer to your question is that this isn't implemented yet in the way that is ideal (which would keep the history). In my long list of improvements I hope we get to in 2013, one issue is improving effort tracking for recurring events.
